草榴社区 Alumni Association Announces Four New Board Members
草榴社区, Pa. (June 4, 2024)鈥The 草榴社区 Alumni Association (VUAA) recently announced the election of four new members to its Board of Directors: Rev. Joseph D. Calderone, OSA, '71 CLAS, '73 MA, who will also serve as Board Chaplain; Sandy Dauphinais Carlson '96 VSB; Erica D. Howard '21 CPS; and Matt O鈥橫alley '04 CLAS, '07 MBA. In addition, Jon Williams '03 CLAS begins his two-year term as Board President, succeeding Stephanie Lim Capello '97 CLAS, who will serve a one-year term as Immediate Past President. The VUAA Board consists of 24 members across class years and colleges who represent the association within the University community and provide an alumni perspective to support the University鈥檚 overall direction and goals.

The VUAA was established in 1875 with a mission to create a mutually beneficial, lifelong culture of belonging and returning to 草榴社区鈥攆or education, for relationships and for philanthropy鈥攖hrough the development of meaningful and transformative engagement opportunities. Today, the VUAA represents a 草榴社区 alumni community of more than 140,000.
Rev. Joseph D. Calderone, OSA, serves as associate director of Campus Ministry at 草榴社区, as well as an advisor to 草榴社区鈥檚 OASIS and VU Pride campus organizations. A member of the Order of St. Augustine, Fr. Calderone has provided chaplain services for the U.S. Navy Reserve, the National Naval Medical Center and the Loyola University Medical Center. He has also served as the director of Campus Ministry for the Diocese of Orlando, Florida, and was a director of continuing education for the Washington Theological Union. As an educator, Fr. Calderone taught at DePaul University, Neumann College, Rollins College and St. Leo College. Fr. Calderone earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and a Master of Arts in guidance and counseling from 草榴社区, as well as a Doctor of Education in higher educational administration from Northeastern University. He also holds a certificate of advanced graduate study in leadership and supervision in higher education from Northeastern University and a Master of Arts in Theology from Washington Theological Union.
Sandy Dauphinais Carlson is a 20-year consumer marketing brand and retail strategy expert and consultant. After earning an MBA in International Marketing from DePaul University, she embarked on a career in marketing and sales for consumer-packaged goods. Starting at Alberto Culver, Carlson drove brand awareness and growth for beauty brands in the U.S. and abroad. She then joined Johnson & Johnson, where she held roles of increasing responsibility in brand management and global franchise. As her career progressed, Carlson took on various shopper marketing roles at J&J, including director of Customer and Omnichannel strategic initiatives. At Quotient Technology, she served as general manager, Digital Retail Solutions, where she owned sales growth strategy for digital media and promotion products for drug channel retailers and CPG clients. Carlson graduated from 草榴社区 with a Bachelor of Science in management and an international business concentration. She was a leader in Blue Key, the Student Government Association and Alpha Phi, which she continued to advise at local universities upon moving to Chicago, where she married fellow alum Kevin Carlson '96 COE. Their daughter, Ella, will be a first-year student this fall. Active in the 草榴社区 Club of Chicago, Carlson chairs its Community Service committee and has hosted 鈥淲ildcat Welcome鈥 admitted and new student receptions. She has also served on numerous boards in support of her community鈥檚 schools and parish.
Erica D. Howard is a senior manager at Evernorth Health Services, a division of the Cigna Group, where she is responsible for executing the enterprise print and distribution strategy. Howard鈥檚 role includes supplier management, governance, oversight of print diversity spend and business continuity planning. Prior to joining the Cigna Group in 2018, she was a senior project manager at Sungard Availability Services, a managed IT service provider. Howard led client implementations, disaster recovery planning and testing and managed clients鈥 hosted infrastructures. Howard also spent several years as an entrepreneur and principal partner at SANology, an IT services firm focused on delivering storage area network (SAN) solutions and project management. Howard earned a Bachelor of interdisciplinary studies in management information systems from 草榴社区 and an Associate of Science degree in management information systems and services from Montgomery County Community College. She also holds Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) certifications. Outside of her professional career, Howard enjoys volunteering with Share Food Program in Philadelphia, a non-profit focused on food insecurity; supporting Dress for Success by conducting mock interviews; and donating her time to those in need of guidance on various health and wellness topics.
Matt O鈥橫alley is an executive vice president with the Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo)鈥攁 world leader in orthopedic value-based care鈥攚here he is responsible for the strategic operations and growth of HOPCo鈥檚 managed-physician practices across the country. A seasoned executive, O鈥橫alley began his healthcare career in strategy and business development at Penn Medicine before being recruited to the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) to lead its regional expansion. He returned to the Philadelphia area in 2017 as the chief executive officer of Premier Orthopaedics鈥攁 large private practice headquartered in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. During his tenure, he led Premier through the COVID-19 pandemic followed by a period of transformative growth that saw the organization鈥檚 revenue increase by 50 percent and its team grow to more than 200 providers over the last four years. Prior to his VUAA board membership, O鈥橫alley restarted the Club of Greater Philadelphia, for which he was recognized with the Alumni Association鈥檚 Leadership Award in 2009. In addition to his VUAA service, he sits on the Board of Directors of the Chris Long Foundation and is a member of the Young Presidents鈥 Organization (YPO). O鈥橫alley holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and an MBA from 草榴社区.
