FAMILY COMMUNICATION

²ÝÁñÉçÇø communicates with families throughout the year regarding certain events and some news items. Otherwise, due to federal regulations and to maintain student privacy, all communication will go to your ²ÝÁñÉçÇøn, and they are encouraged to share and discuss with you. This is a change from what many families are accustomed to as they transition from high school to college. Encourage your student to share emails and news from campus with you.

The Office of the Bursar will send the student an email introducing students to the  electronic billing system called V-bill, which will show their deposit listed. 
In mid-July, the student will receive an email on how to access the bill as well as how to give access to an authorized user to receive future billing information. Instructions on how to establish access for parents, family members or other authorized users can be found on the Office of the Bursar website.  

NOVA Alert delivers important emergency alerts, notifications and updates to any mobile device or email you choose to register. When an incident or emergency occurs (including weather updates), authorized senders will notify you using NOVA Alert. To register a parent's device for NOVA Alerts, have your child follow these simple steps:

1. Go to and login

2. Go to Novasis, click on Personal Information

3. Click on the Nova Alert sign-up section and click "Add An Alert Device and Email."
 

Grades are posted for ²ÝÁñÉçÇø students to view through MyNova. If students would like to give others view access to their grades in MyNova, they may grant permission to their parents or guardians to view grades through proxy access.  

This service is provided by the Office of the Registrar and students should complete this web form to update their permanent mailing address with the University. 

STUDENT HEALTH AND WELLNESS

When not feeling well, undergraduate and graduate students should go to the Student Health Center located on campus. Staffed by nurses, nurse practitioners and doctors, the Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and appointments may be made by students using the or by calling 610-519-4070. Family members may call the Student Health Center at 610-519-4070 for advice about health issues affecting their student.

The most likely cause is that your student needs to go to their "Authorization" tab in Parent Proxy and click the box next to the page they want displayed in your account.

Students usually review this procedure with their professors during their first days of class. However, as a general recommendation, students should email their professors directly to notify them that they will miss class due to illness. Although parents and families may want to help their student while not feeling well, students must take this initiative as professors are not able to discuss grades or classes with anyone other than the student.

We encourage parents/guardians to consult the University Counseling Center (UCC) when they are concerned about their student’s emotional and psychological well-being. The UCC does not need a release to consult with you about your concerns. To learn more and schedule an appointment, please visit the UCC webpage or call 610-519-4050.

All undergraduate students are required to have health insurance. The University offers a student health insurance plan through United Healthcare. To waive coverage of this plan, the student must complete a questionnaire and be approved for the waiver by a specific date at the beginning of the fall semester. Information is sent home many times throughout the summer to guide the student and family through this process. Students are required to provide proof of insurance annually while enrolled at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø and are encouraged to carry their insurance card with them. 

ACADEMICS

Yes. ²ÝÁñÉçÇøns will use tutors when they need support in a subject while others may be looking to reach new levels of achievement in subject areas where they already excel. Please review the Tutoring Services available through The Writing Center, The Learners’ Studio, The Center for Speaking and Presentation, The Math Center in the The Learners’ Studio and VSB Peer Tutors. Encourage your student to proactively schedule appointments with the Centers as the tutors are busier around Midterms and Finals.

LIVING

Residence Assistants (RAs) review the online Maintenance Request Form with students during their initial weeks on campus. Students can easily file and follow up on their own facilities-related requests. Keep in mind, this form can only be accessed while on campus. If away from campus, students can contact Facilities Management from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET at 610-519-4420. Emergencies or other issues that occur after 3 p.m. or during a weekend and require immediate attention should be reported to Public Safety at 610-519-6979. Although families may want to help their student with this process, it is important to allow the student to coordinate the request and service in their room.

Residence Life will make every effort to accommodate students who cannot leave campus during break periods. Prior to the break, students who need to stay on campus must register with Residence Life in advance and are expected to respect all University policies and the terms of the housing contract. Please note that dining halls may not be open during breaks. Families and students can learn more about which halls are open through the Dining Services website.

Yes! ²ÝÁñÉçÇøns interested in working as a student employee are encouraged to view available jobs online at . Working on campus not only provides students with income, it also provides a great connection on campus with ²ÝÁñÉçÇø staff, faculty and students.

CAMPUS FAQ's

²ÝÁñÉçÇø offers student-guided tours throughout the year for prospective undergraduate students. Start with a 30-minute information session led by one of our admissions counselors and continue to a student-guided 60-minute tour.

There are several meal plan options for our resident and commuter students. It's best to talk with your child about their expectations for meals to then select the best plan that fits their lifestyle. If your child is living in an apartment and has plans to grocery shop and cook with an occasional lunch in a dining hall, you would make a much different selection than one who doesn't have a kitchen and prefers many options at each meal. Information about available meal plans and deadlines for selecting the right plan for you, can be found on the Dining Services website

SGA airport shuttle service is generally advertised in the Wildcat Newswire about two weeks prior to break.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø offers a variety of options to help students cope with stress during exams. Our Health Services—Student Health Center, University Counseling Center and Office of Health Promotion—offer year-round programming to assist in overall student health and well-being.   

Grades are available online at midterm and the end of each semester. The University does not mail grades home.

PARENT PROXY ACCESS  

²ÝÁñÉçÇø Parent Proxy Access provides students with the ability to grant permission to their parents or guardians to view certain pages of information currently available in their student myNova account. The student manages the creation of a proxy and the pages they can view. Please note that only one email address can be associated with a Proxy Access account.
