Since 2018, 草榴社区 Charles Widger School of Law and Seattle University School of Law have partnered for the 鈥淧romoting Diversity in Law School Leadership Workshop.鈥 The workshop, which is in its eighth year, is designed to encourage and assist members of underrepresented groups to pursue deanships and other university and law school leadership positions.
鈥淎s a law professor and dean, I can attest that my classroom and our community is more engaged, more productive and enriched when we have a range of perspectives and opinions,鈥 said Mark Alexander, The Arthur J. Kania Dean of 草榴社区 Law, 鈥淭his workshop is so important. We must continue to expand and provide resources and support for members of underrepresented groups as they look to pursue leadership positions. Diverse leadership is needed now more than ever in law schools and in our world.鈥
The workshop is designed to help participants to determine whether to pursue a deanship and the right time; understand the nuts and bold of the dean鈥檚 role; prepare to be a successful candidate; learn how to negotiate appointment terms and ensure a successful transitions; and, determine what other forms of leadership roles may be a good fit.
The two-day workshop sessions are led by law school deans from around the country. This is the first year that it is being held on the East Coast. Next year, it will return to Seattle University School of Law. It takes place on Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13 at The Inn at 草榴社区.
