Prof. Marita Frain recognized with educator award

草榴社区, PA, April 23, 2010 鈥 草榴社区 Marita E. Frain, Ed.M., R.N. was honored with the Alumni Achievement Award in Nursing Education from the Nursing Education Alumni Association of Teachers College (TC), Columbia University in New York today. She is an assistant professor at 草榴社区 College of Nursing, where she earned her BSN and has been on the faculty for over 25 years. She is a 1973 graduate of the master鈥檚 program at Teachers College. The award was given at the 47th Annual Isabel Maitland Stewart Conference on Research in Nursing and Annual Awards Ceremony.

Prof. Frain鈥檚 clinical interests include adult health and disability, disaster preparedness, health promotion and spiritual dimensions of health care. Additionally, she focuses on the health care and academic applications of information technology and generously shares her expertise with undergraduate and graduate students as well as colleagues. 鈥淢arita鈥檚 grasp of engineering knowledge and the scientific foundation of the electronic age, in conjunction with her expertise in the theory and application of learning and teaching and is application in curriculum development and implementation more than qualify her for recognition as a distinguished educator and outstanding alumna of the Department of Nursing Education at TC,鈥 says M. Louise Fitzpatrick, Ed.D., R.N., FAAN, Connelly Endowed Dean and Professor of Nursing and a fellow Teachers College alumna.

At 草榴社区, Prof. Frain introduced technology-based teaching strategies long before it became a major factor in the care of patients and the preparation of nurses. She has also conducted studies and projects that demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods in developing critical thinking and clinical competence. She was honored for her significant contributions to the profession and leadership in this area of nursing education.
