Two students from the College of Nursing鈥檚 Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program spearheaded an advanced practice event for Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine this month.

Latesha Colbert-Mack, MSN, CRNP, a nurse practitioner in Endocrine and Oncologic Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Jenny Lynn, MSN, CRNP, a nurse practitioner for  inpatient Thoracic Surgery also at HUP, are co- chairpersons of the Advanced Practice Professional Development Committee. Translating the knowledge and experience they gained in the DNP program, they successfully developed, organized and executed a premier lecture on November 14th for advanced practice providers during National Nurse Practitioner Week.

The 鈥淕rooming for Greatness鈥 lecture hosted by their committee featured Tina Simmons, 鈥89 VSB, senior vice president of Human Resources for Comcast Communications who spoke about 鈥淐reating the Internal Leader for External Excellence.鈥  She is the senior Human Resources executive for Customer Service Operations responsible for strategy development of employee recruitment, engagement, retention, recognition, and development initiatives for over 50,000 customer account executives, technicians, and leaders in customer operations.

This comprehensive leadership lecture was designed for advanced practice providers who aspire to package and brand their internal leader to impact positive organizational outcomes. Participants included nurse practitioners, physician assistants, academic colleagues and executive level leaders from various clinical institutions.

Lynn is in the first cohort of students in the DNP program and will graduate in December. Colbert-Mack, a member of the 2nd class, finishes next year.
