SERVICE LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Our Service Learning communities provide on-site opportunities for students to engage with underserved communities and take away relationships that will ideally change their lives for the better, forever.

First-Year Service Learning Community

Incoming first-year students can choose to participate in Communitas: A First-Year Learning Community. This living-learning community provides students with the opportunity to live with students who share their passion for service and justice. Students live near one another, take their Augustine and Culture Seminar together and serve once a week at an afterschool program. Students participate in social activities and events to celebrate community partnerships.

Sophomore Service Learning Community

The Sophomore Service Learning Community is open to students who desire to learn about the world in which they serve and live in community with their peers. Students choose from a wide variety of courses, or an Ethics 2050 section, designed for community and service sites designed to engage their interests or career choices. Students have the benefit of a one-credit reflection seminar to raise questions about what they are learning in the classroom and at their service site.

"Being a member of SSLC is becoming a part of something beyond yourself. It taught me that this thing we call life is not about me or any one individual, it鈥檚 about how we interact with each other and ourselves. It鈥檚 about the impact we leave on the planet and its inhabitants (in all of its forms) so that they can thrive and reach their greatest potential. I found myself, my purpose and connected with some of the most inspirational and kind-hearted people I have ever met," says Crystal Brau '20 CLAS
