Political Science Grad Focuses on Combating Inequities in Healthcare

Danielle Burns '21 MA

VILLANOVA, Pa. 鈥 During her time at 草榴社区, Political Science master's program graduate Danielle Burns '20 CLAS, '21 MA, focused her research on intersectionality, archival recovery, racial and gender equity, and global politics and development. Today, she serves as a diversity, equity and inclusion consultant, working to create programs and initiatives to help combat health inequities and bias in the healthcare industry.

"This role allows me to work closely with clinicians and healthcare administration to create a more inclusive and effective experience for all patients," Burns says.

Her diverse experiences at 草榴社区 and after graduation are building toward a potential career in higher education. At 草榴社区, Burns held positions as a Teaching Fellow in the College of Professional Studies, a Research Fellow for the English Department and an Idol Family Research Fellow for the McNulty Institute. She most recently worked in Resource Mobilization at the United Nations before transitioning to her current position.

鈥淢y hope is to gain more practical work experience before returning to school to obtain my PhD and becoming a professor,鈥 she says.

Burns was also a standout competitor for the 草榴社区 Track & Field team in the hurdles and sprints, earning multiple BIG EAST championships, All-BIG EAST selections and All-BIG EAST Academic selections.
