COMBINED BA/MS OR BS/MS IN PSYCHOLOGY

Students in this program earn both a BA or BS and an MS in Psychology. This program provides an especially strong foundation for individuals who plan to pursue a PhD in one of the many subfields of psychology. It also serves the needs of students who are unsure of their future professional goals and of individuals seeking a terminal master鈥檚 degree before entering the work force.

Prerequisites

Applicants to the program should have the following:

  • 草榴社区 psychology major with junior status
  • a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (most accepted applicants have higher GPAs)
  • a GPA in the psychology major of at least 3.2 (most accepted applicants have higher GPAs)
  • completed or be enrolled in at least six psychology courses which must include:
    • PSY 2000 - Statistics
    • PSY 2050 - Research Methods
    • PSY 2100 - Seminar in Professional Development
    • PSY 4200 - Biopsychology or PSY 4500 - Cognitive Psychology
    • Two additional psychology electives

Although not required for application, most successful applicants have demonstrated interest in psychological research by participating in a research laboratory.

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Goals (no more than two pages) In a cohesive statement, please describe:
    • Your immediate and long-term career goals
    • How your prior experiences (e.g., academic, research, professional, leadership) have helped prepare you for graduate education, and how those experiences may have shaped your current interests
    • Why you think our program is a good fit for you
    • Why you think you are a good fit for our program
    • If there are specific faculty members whose research resonate with your interests, tell us about that, too. Please note that you are not required to identify specific faculty members in your application material.
    • Finally, if you wish to discuss lived experiences and other barriers that might have impacted your academic performance and professional experience, you may include a brief paragraph at the end of your statement to describe those factors.
    • Your statement will help us determine the fit between your interests and our program and also the fit between our program鈥檚 strengths and your eventual goals.
